Razer Blade 15 (2020)

I got The New Razer Blade 15 at the end of June and I just wanna share my experience using it so far (about a month).

Specifications:
RAM: 16GB
Processor: 10th Gen Intel Core i7 (6-core)
Graphics: RTX 2070 Max-Q
Display: Full HD 144Hz
Storage: 512GB SSD

I’m not a super computer whiz or know all about specifications etc. but I know what is good and I know what I like. I also trusted this reviewer especially because, as Liner pointed out, she chose to get one for herself when she has the opportunity to test numerous different laptops! She had her pick of the litter and she chose this laptop - I think that says something.

So far, so good. I like how smooth and fast it runs, I like how the command centre is green, I like how it looks. It turned out to be much lighter than I had expected. It’s sleek, it looks professional yet badass and cool, and it’s easy/light to carry. I also love the material (aluminium I believe) cos I can wipe it with a damp cloth to remove oily palm/finger prints and it looks good as new.

As far as performance goes, I am well aware that I do not test its limits. The most I do are games that are not demanding, a million tabs, and/or several applications running. When I’m playing Sims 2, I find that it only stops lagging when the power runs on best performance (as opposed to like ‘battery’ saver or even midway ‘better performance’/better battery’). Otherwise it runs just fine for other shit.

Heat: It doesn’t heat up much when I’m playing Sims 2 - it’s like I’m doing normal stuff. But, when I run Sims 4 (I bought the base game to see if I’d actually like it since I hadn’t tried it) it heats up like a frying pan. That was pretty surprising to me especially because firstly, it’s Sims, and secondly because the cooling system is better than (what I think is) the usual. It’s got these conductor things to push the heat away from the source and also it’s got it’s own 2 bars (top and bottom) on the underside which raise the laptop a little off the surface it’s on.

L4D2 also heats it up more than Sims 2 does. Sims 2 wins again. Needless to say, the games run just fine and I am loving being able to max out the graphics settings. Probably wasted on old ass games like Sims and L4D2 but I know what I like and I’m happy with that.

The fan is loud, though. I have to say. Running normally if you don’t have other noises (shows, construction, talking) you can hear it. If I’m running my games it’ll whir like the hamster wheel of energy. Personally, this does not bother me at all and it doesn’t really interrupt anything in my opinion.

Battery: I think the battery life is normal. On normal performance settings, it lasts maybe 4 hours. On best performance setting, maybe 2h. The little window thing is not showing numbers correctly (if I toggle it to battery saver, it’ll go from 3h to 1h? If I go back up and down and up, it’ll change to 2h? I think this is a Windows 10 problem, Idk Microsoft fix your shit). At this moment it’s showing me 1h 14mins remaining (60%) while I have 21 tabs (no video/audio) on Chrome, telegram, discord, and file explorer open. I also have f.lux running in the background (I assume?) and I like my screen dim. Take from that what you will.

Keyboard: It’s comfortable to type - more so than my MacBook Air. I just really miss the other 2 sections of the keyboard that I have with my work keyboard (Cooler Master Cherry MX Brown) or that I had with my Alienware 17”. Kind of a pain to use two hands to do Fn+up/down just to show different levels of my Sims’ homes and idek the shortcut to change walls view. I now use the cursor instead. Small stuff, though. I’ll just get used to it. Otherwise I’m happy and I also like the sound it makes (cos I type like I am perpetually angry). The only drawback I would say is the trackpad. I truly do not understand why it needs to be so damn big? A lot of the time while I’m typing my palm would touch the track pad and accidentally click something. It’s centralised in relation to the chassis, not the keyboard, so I can’t really avoid it by just widening the space evenly between my hands. I guess I’ll get used to it too, it’s fine.

Display: I have no complaints. Colours are great, refresh rate is great, and I love that it’s matted so there’s minimised glare.

Audio: I don’t know if it’s the audio system or if it’s placement of the speakers (flanking the keyboard) but it’s loud. Like I can comfortably hear audio from Sims while the volume is at <10. In fact, it is often at 4-5. If I’m on YouTube or something then the volume is still <20. Contrast this with my MacBook Air (idk where the speakers are - the part between the screen and the body?) where I play Survivor at almost 3/4 volume. To be fair, my MacBook is a few years old so I don’t know if that affects.

Camera: It’s a shit camera but you know what, I don’t care. I have my MacBook Air and iPhone for good selfie camera quality. I’ll survive. I almost never use it anyway. You can’t have everything, right?

Overall, I am a very happy camper. (: It has everything I need and more. Whatever it lacks, I don’t need anyway.
